R.I.P. Steve McNair

One of the toughest guys to ever lace them up......gone way, way too soon

Okay, I’m really worn out from this blog looking like the obits section from the newspaper……Steve McNair, the former NFL MVP Quarterback, who played for 13 seasons with the Tennessee Titans and the Baltimore Ravens, was found dead yesterday in a downtown Tennessee condo, apparently the victim of several gunshot wounds.  It has been hinted by police that McNair was the victim of a murder-suicide by his 20 year old girlfriend Sahel Kazemi, who was also found a few feet away from McNair with a single wound to the head.  The two had been dating for around four months, despite the fact that McNair was married.  Here is a guy, who started from extremely humble beginnings in Mississippi and made a name for himself playing football for Alcorn State, where he passed his way to several records.  He was drafted into the NFL and over the course of his career, became one of the elite field generals in the game, using his grit and determination to guide his Titans squads to several deep playoff runs, including a Super Bowl appearance against the St. Louis Rams in 1999, falling just short of winning the title.  He often played hurt with an array of ailments, somehow summoning the strength and courage to continue to compete.  He was a warrior in every sense, and it is crazy to have to speak of him in the past tense.  Once more, another one of us, gone far too soon…….
